PLP Architecture designs world’s first AI research lab in China

London-based studio PLP Architecture has designed the first research laboratory specifically dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) research and development in Shanghai, China. The 510,209 sq ft lab was built for the World Laureates Association Science Community and commissioned by Parkland Group, a China-based real estate developer. PLP designed the lab in collaboration with global sustainable development consultancy Arup and architectural design institute Arcplus Institute of Shanghai Architectural Design & Research, alongside a team of consultants. It features a super lab for physical simulations, specialist labs for diverse technological experiments, data centres, and general labs focused on human well-being. PLP has designed two projects in Singapore. This includes the 54-unit freehold luxury residential development Park Nova on Tomlinson Road in Orchard, which has been designed with biophilic elements. The architectural firm is also designing the new Clifford Centre, a commercial development at 24 Raffles Place. The building in the CBD has been undergoing demolition and redevelopment works since 2023
